Automata: The Series (web series, 2017)

In this inventive web series, a detective and his robot partner work in Prohibition-era New York while staying within the detective noir and buddy movie conventions. The alternative history has Prohibition as not the Carrie Nation-alcohol-is-bad Prohibition but a backlash against robots resulting in the Prohibition of new robots. Is it a spoof of film noir or a homage? Who cares: it’s fun, the acting and cinematography are first rate, the episodes are around 10 minutes long, and the plot hangs together nicely. A true kickstarter success!
